NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A man who escaped from the lockup at the Harbour Island Police Station has been jailed for one year for the crime.

Lavon Nairn received the sentence after pleading guilty to escape during an arraignment before Assistant Chief Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux.

Police allege that Nairn and Kerven Jonassaint broke out of the cells at the station on November 4 and caused $4,000 in damage in the process.

Jonassaint pleaded not guilty to escape and damage charges and was denied bail.

Meanwhile, Nairn has denied the damage charge.

They will both stand trial on February 4, 2026.
