UNITED STATES – More than 10,000 representatives gathered tuesday for the Southern Baptist Convention’s annual meeting in Indianapolis to vote on banning churches with women pastors and address sexual abuse within churches.

They will debate whether to amend their constitution to ban women from all pastoral roles. A small group of women demonstrated in support of female pastors outside the venue.

Former U.S. Vice president Mike Pence, speaking at a sideline event, criticized President Biden and advocated for a return to Ronald Reagan’s policies.

The meeting continues with a focus on providing a “safe place” to worship and responding to sexual abuse.
