19-Year-Old Man Dies Days After Same Crash Killed Four Teen Girls

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Another life has been lost following the deadly Shirley Street crash that has left the nation grieving.

Just shy of a week after the June 28th accident, 19-year-old Keno Gordon Jr., affectionately known as Kjay, died from his injuries in hospital.

Gordon was among 8 passengers in a compact car that collided with a tree on Shirley Street – four teen girls died on the day of the crash, including 17-year-old diamond Stubbs, 18-year-old Betrica Brown, 19-year-old Evalena Johnson, 18-year-old and Stania Webb.

Gordon was one of the four survivors rushed to the hospital following the crash. His death brings the tragic toll from that incident to five.

His mother, Shantika Williams McQueen confirmed his passing in a heartfelt social media post, thanking the public for their prayers and support during what she called one of the most difficult seasons of her family’s life.

Remembering her late son she said, “his smile, his kindness, his love for basketball, Junkanoo, family, and life itself will forever remain in our hearts.”

Friends, classmates, And community members have flooded social media with tributes, describing Gordon as a dedicated, loving, and hardworking young man who dreamed of furthering his education.

The Cat Island native, who as an Old Bight High School graduate, was also known for his athletic ability on the basketball court and his passion for Junkanoo.

The Roots Junkanoo Group also paying tribute saying.

“His passion for Junkanoo, his dedication, and the joy he brought to every practice and parade will forever be remembered. Though his journey with us has ended, his spirit will continue to live on in every beat of the drum and every step we take together.”

Another friend shared her heartbreak online, saying she had been encouraged by reports that gordon was improving and had planned to visit him once he left the intensive care unit.

That visit she said, never happened.

The driver of the vehicle is facing criminal charges, while two victims from that crash, a young man and a young woman remain hospitalized.
