“Yes, murders are up 13 percent, attempted murders are down 19 percent, and armed robberies are down 26 percent.”

Munroe made this statement in September during a briefing at the National Crime Intelligence Agency. He noted that while overall crime was down by six percent, the numbers were still not satisfactory.

“Every single number is still too high.”

Recent weeks have seen additional murders and armed robberies, including a tragic incident where a man was shot while holding his baby after school pickup.

Homicides for the past three years have ranged between 110 and 128 annually. In January, Prime Minister Philip Davis introduced a five-pillar strategy to combat crime focusing on prevention, policing, prosecution, punishment, and rehabilitation.

Latrae Rahming – Communications Director, Office of the Prime Minister
“Prevention will be a key part of our focus, along with strong police response. On the prosecution side, the emphasis will be on swift justice and moving cases quickly through the courts.”
