UNITED STATES – On Thursday, the United States and Russia completed their largest prisoner swap since the cold war, releasing journalist Evan Gershkovich, Corporate Security Executive Paul Whelan, and dissidents including Vladimir Kara-Murza.

The exchange, which also saw Russia release other dissidents and alleged spies, took place amid strained U.S.-Russia relations.

U.S. President Joe Biden praised the deal as a diplomatic achievement, but acknowledged the challenges and ethical questions surrounding it.
