NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Bahamas Public Service Union and government signing a $40 million industrial agreement, Monday, bringing salary increases and allowances for members of the union.

“We’re pleased with the overall agreement. It’s a first step,” said Pia Glover-Rolle, Minister of State in the Public Service.

“We don’t always get everything we ask for, but the goal is to continue to advocate to see how we can fiscally provide whatever it is our unions are requesting for our employees.”

The agreement is retroactive to July 1, 2022 and will cover the union’s 4000 members until 2025.

Kimsley Ferguson, BPSU president, pointed out that while he was pleased with the signing of the agreement, there were some elements that the union is still agitating for, including hazard allowance for security officers, and staff at the meteorology office, as well as hazard or insurance coverage for school security officers who face “some degree of challenge.”
