NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Damage caused by the fire in North Andros could run the power giant into just over a half million dollars.

Works and Utilities Minister Alfred Sears telling parliament there’s been multiple ups and downs accompanied by multiple outages, but assures officials are working around the clock to fix the problems.

Bahamas Power and Light is estimating it will cost $600,000 to supply power to North Andros following that catastrophic fire last week.

It’s been confirmed that all generation assets were destroyed and the building needs to be demolished.

It hasn’t been an easy road for North Androsians following the fire.

On Friday, BPL officials revealed the plan was to implement a four-hour load-shedding schedule for those residents, but that didn’t happen.

On Sunday a control shutdown was implemented but was unsuccessful resulting in a ten-hour-long outage

But the challenges didn’t stop there.

Parliamentarians also heard the power giant faced a fuel supply issue that damaged two of its machines.

This resulted in another widespread outage for the North Andros.

He says those machines have since been repaired and power incrementally restored.

Officials will also conduct a remediation exercise after a fuel leakage at the property.
