78 New Officers Join the Bahamas Customs Department’s Ranks

NASSAU , THE BAHAMAS – A new slate of officers have joined the ranks of The Bahamas Customs department.

Their induction into the organization was commemorated with a graduation ceremony on Thursday afternoon and our Denielle Miller was there and gave all the details.

Hundreds of proud family members and friends filled the sanctuary on Thursday evening to cheer on more than seventy graduates.

Prime Minister Philip Davis K.C. was in attendance and also delivered the keynote address.

Under the theme “Entrusted with Authority, Guided by Integrity”, Prime Minister Davis’ message highlighted the significance of each graduate’s role in serving the country.

“So today seventy eight nation builders have agreed to stand the threshold guarding the entry points to our nation. Think for a moment of what it means to guard an archipelago we’re not a mass of land with a single defined border, there’s Cat Island spanning over one thousand square miles. Every dock on each island is a doorway into our nation. Every airstrip and airport a door you are now the guardians of those many doors “)

Valedictorian of the class, Keneice Fraser spent 16 years in the customs department as a cashier and she described her journey of transitioning in the organization.

“I didn’t allow myself to become stagnant. Where ever I was I always learnt everything that was going on around me it gave me an opportunity to excel even more. I pushed myself during all of the studies “

Graduate, Rashan Thurston-Lamm told our Denielle that the path to today’s ceremony was a bitter-sweet one.
