Central And South Eleuthera MP Talks Island Upgrades

ELEUTHERA, BAHAMAS – Days after North Eleuthera residents protested over power and water woes as well as the state of their airport and dock, Works and Family Island Affairs Minister Clay Sweeting gave an update on those projects. Our Jasmin Brown has been in Eleuthera this week and has the details.

That’s Central and South Eleuthera MP, as well as Works Minister Clay Sweeting, insisting the Davis Administration is doing what it can to address long-standing issues in North Eleuthera.

Sweeting, who’s from North Eleuthera, was speaking at the Harbour Island Business Outlook that was held at the Valentine’s Resort on Friday.

The event was just shy of a week since North Eleuthera residents protested over utility and infrastructural woes.

When it comes to issues with the water supply, Sweeting had this to say.

As for concerns about consistent power supply, he says BPL has made considerable investments to keep the electricity on.

The state of docks has also been a concern for residents – the Works Minister says Spanish Wells will get a new fishing dock and that project is going out to tender this week.

As for Harbour Island’s dock.

Sweeting also says his Ministry is currently solidifying a contract for work on a new glass window bridge.

According to the minister, 7 contractors have applied for the project and conducted site visits this past week.
