King Charles Joins Pope Leo XIV for Historic Prayer in Sistine Chapel
VATICAN CITY – A historic scene unfolded inside the Sistine Chapel today — as King Charles III and Queen Camilla joined Pope Leo XIV for a joint prayer service, the first of its kind in 500 years.
VATICAN CITY – A historic scene unfolded inside the Sistine Chapel today — as King Charles III and Queen Camilla joined Pope Leo XIV for a joint prayer service, the first of its kind in 500 years.
The royal couple met the Pope in the Apostolic Palace before joining midday prayers led by the Pope and the Archbishop of York.
The service, delivered in both Latin and English, focused on Christian unity and environmental stewardship.
Choirs from St. George’s Chapel, the Chapel Royal, and the Sistine Chapel performed together — a rare and symbolic display of harmony.
The ceremony ended with Pope Leo and King Charles walking side by side.
