NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Thousands braved the cold early New Year’s morning, pouring onto Bay Street for Junkanoo.

After the Boxing Day parade drew criticism over long gaps and frustrating wait times, it appears organizers got it right this time around, keeping the energy flowing well into the morning.

First out of the gate were the Royal Caribbean Music Makers, taking fans on a musical journey around The Bahamas.

Next came the World Famous Valley Boys, boots firmly on the ground as they transported Junkanoo lovers back to the Wild Wild West.

Following them were the Valley Boys Junkanoo Group, reminding fans that it’s “Bahamian or Nuttin.”

As the sun began to rise, the Shell Saxon Superstars made their statement, paying tribute to the Crusaders and staging a dramatic battle for divine salvation.

Genesis followed, gathering all of the tribes in a powerful display of rhythm and storytelling.

But as the morning wore on, the Boxing Day defending champions, One Family Warriors, took Bay Street to church with a performance that kept the crowd locked in.

They were followed by Prodigal Sons and Roots, while the B Groups also made sure their presence was felt along the route.
