NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Playhouse Entertainment recently hosted its “Back to the 90s” event, featuring Frisco Kid and the internationally acclaimed Queen of Soca, Alison Hinds.

Hinds, a global performer and cultural ambassador, says she never imagined that the young girl once tormented because of her heritage would grow into an international icon.

Born to Caribbean parents in England, Hinds says music became her refuge as she faced racism and low self-esteem during her early years.

After relocating to Barbados, she says she finally found a sense of belonging — a move that introduced her to soca music.

At just 17 years old, she joined the band Square One, marking the beginning of a career that would take her across the globe.

Today, Hinds says music remains her comfort zone and safe place — a powerful reminder of how art can transform pain into purpose.
