CANADA – Canadian police have identified the suspect in one of the deadliest school shootings in the country’s history as an 18-year-old woman with a history of mental health issues.

Authorities say Jesse Van Rootselaar took her own life after Tuesday’s attack in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia.

Police say she first killed her mother and 11-year-old stepbrother at home, then went to a school, where a teacher and five students were fatally shot.

The death toll now stands at nine. Investigators have not released a motive.
