NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A woman is facing a marriage fraud charge after she made a complaint to police.

Avalyne Jean, 30, went to police after she was unable to register her daughter’s birth in 2020 after records showed she was married to 40-year-old Markenson St Luc.

Following investigations, police accused Jean and St Luc of entering into a sham marriage in 2019 so that he could obtain a spousal permit.

They both denied the allegations at their arraignment before Acting Assistant Chief Magistrate Shaka Serville.

Jean’s bail was set at $5,000, while a decision on bail for St Luc is still pending.

A trial date has not been scheduled yet.
