NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A boat captain has been remanded to prison as he awaits sentencing for a plot to smuggle guns and ammunition into The Bahamas.

Ahmad Bain is expected to learn his fate when he appears before Justice Loren Klein on August 19.

On May 14, 2024, a firearm detection dog gave an alert while inspecting packages that had been shipped through a courier company at the Lynden Pindling International Airport, prompting a search.

Police found nine firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition in boxes marked Garcia Rolle and Maria Esteve.

Investigations led to Bain, whose girlfriend worked at the courier company.

Police officers also recovered WhatsApp messages from Bain’s phone from the shipper that said the boxes would have the false names Garcia Rolle and Maria Esteve.
