LONG ISLAND, THE BAHAMAS – Deadman’s Cay, Long Island hosted the Progressive Liberal Party’s Rally for Progress on Friday night.

For three decades, the island has been represented by a Free National Movement member of Parliament, with the last PLP elected being Philip Smith. He held the position from 1977 to 1992.

And now, the party aims to reclaim the constituency with Reneika Knowles.

Knowles telling rally attendees, allegiance to the FNM party has yielded no advantages.

“For decades this island has sent the same team to parliament and yet too many of the same issues remain. We have to ask ourselves is this working for us? Because a real partnership lifts you up. It does not leave you waiting it does not leave you wondering and it does not leave you behind.” – Reneika Knowles

She shared her plans if elected to parliament.

“It includes a proper bank, two additional ATMs, modern upgrades to our clinics, an inclusive school for special needs a technology and trade school. Reviving and monetizing the heritage sponging , salting, fishing and farming industries as a complete cooperative.” – Reneika Knowles

PLP Leader Philip Davis, says a key aspect of the island will be transformed into a global economic hub during his tenure.

“Dean’s Blue Hole the deepest Blue Hole in the world. Sitting right here on your island will be redeveloped into a world class eco tourism destination. With Long Islanders running it, working it and profiting from it.” – Prime Minister Philip Davis
