NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A 43-year-old Haitian woman has denied trying to smuggle a large sum of money out of the country.

Simone Thelimond was headed to Haiti when police arrested her on May 23 at the Lynden Pindling International Airport after allegedly finding $73,000 in her luggage.

It’s not illegal to travel with large sums of money, but travelers are required to declare amounts over $10,000.

Thelimond pleaded not guilty to the charge of failing to declare at her arraignment before assistant Chief Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux.

She was granted $8,000 bail and her trial is set for August 24.
