UNITED STATES – Russia has released American veteran Robert Gilman, who spent more than four years in prison on controversial charges and was reportedly gravely ill.

Advocates reported that Gilman was being sent to a U.S. military hospital in Texas for medical and psychological care.

He was expected to be joined there by family members who were traveling to be with him.

The 32-year-old teacher and former Marine was detained in 2022 and served sentences that were ultimately extended to around 10 years after convictions for assaults while in custody.

Global Reach’s Eric Lebson said the group helped secure Gilman’s transfer, while his sister credited President Trump and Senator Ed Markey for helping bring him home.
