36-Year-Old Bahamian Man Held In Florida Prison

FLORIDA, U.S.A. – A Bahamian man is being held in a Florida prison on human smuggling charges.

36-year-old Henryk Walkes was arrested on August 18 after the boat he was captaining lost steering control and began taking on water about 22 miles off from Miami Dade county.

According to a federal complaint, customs and border protection agents allegedly saw Walkes handing handfuls of cash to the 18 passengers on the distressed vessel.

Three of the passengers had previously been deported from the United States.

A check of the boats GPS system showed that the boat had left from Bimini.
