Bahamas Surf Team Headed To El Salvador

EL SAVADOR – A five-person team is headed to South America to compete in the International Surfing Association World Junior Championships.

The team of 15-year-old D’andro Thompson of Harbour Island, 14-year-old twin sisters McKayla and Yemaya Hauber of Savannah Zound, Eleuthera 13-year-old Isaiah Thompson, the youngest member of the team from Gregory Town, Eleuthera and 18-year-old Eliza Denning, an internationally-renowned sailor who recently graduated from Lyford Cay International School right here in New Providence.

They will represent The Bahamas at the championships for the first time in history.

The Bahamas Surfing Association, the local body supporting these athletes, has members in Abaco, Eleuthera, and New Providence. They’ve been holding events and trainings preparing these surfers to take on their first international competition.

Whatever the results, we know that they’ll put on a strong showing.

Baseball

Jazz Chisholm went 0-3 with 2 strikeouts, and Bahamian-by-marriage Cody Bellinger went 0-4.

But Bellinger threw a wild 100 mph strike from left field to home to cut down the game-tying run trying to tag up from third and secure the Yankees’ 1-0 win over their hated rival, the Boston Red Sox.

Atlanta Braves outfield and first-base coach Antoan Richardson and his Atlanta Braves got the better of the Colorado Rockies, coming away with the 4-6 win.

His outfielders came up big in the win. Right fielder Ronald Acuña went 3-3 with 3 singles and 3 runs. And centerfielder Michael Harris hit a home run and a double, scoring 2 runs and driving in 3 rbi.

Down in the minors, Sebastian Walcott is showing why he’s one of the top prospects in all of baseball.

The Texas Rangers Prospect set the tone with a leadoff home run to left field, and he also had a single, but his double-a Frisco Roughriders lost 5-3 to the Northwest Arkansas Naturals.

BJ Murray went yard as well. The Chicago Cubs prospect hit a solo shot to make the difference in his Iowa Cubs 4-3 win over the Omaha Storm Chasers.

And Daunte Stuart hit a single, got a walk, and he stole his 17th base in 50 games, but his Jersey Shore Blue Claws lost to the Wilmington Blue Rocks 8-1.
