Cop Accused Of Shooting Teen Makes First Court Appearance

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A policeman who allegedly shot a minor and failed to notify the police control room about the incident has been denied bail.

Prosecutors allege Corporal 1015 Desmond Pinder shot a 15-year-old boy in the back on September 2.

The teen was driving with a passenger on Cowpen Road when Pinder allegedly fired into the back of the Nissan Note when it failed to stop. Pinder allegedly did not notify anyone about the shooting, which came to light when the minor reported the incident at the Carmichael Road police station.

Pinder faces charges of attempted murder of the minors and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger their lives in connection to the September 2 shooting.

Pinder was not required to enter pleas to the charges when he stood before Acting Chief Magistrate Ancella Evans.

He was represented by Bjorn Ferguson and returns to court on January 21 to receive voluntary bill of indictment papers.
