44-Year-Old Man Accused Of Killing Police Officer Denied Bail

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A 44-year-old man accused of killing a popular police officer during a brazen armed robbery has been denied bail to prevent re-offending and preserve public order.

Justice Neil Brathwaite refused bail to Ronald Telfort who’s accused of killing reserve inspector Lernex Williams during a gunfight outside of the Royal Bank of Canada on June 15th, 2025.

Williams was about to make a deposit for two gas stations when two men emerged from a white Suzuki Swift.

Gunshots were exchanged and Williams and Joseph Sinclair were both fatally shot.

The surviving gunman grabbed the deposit bag and fled.

Justice Brathwaite noted that Telfort has convictions for firearms possession and is now accused of offenses involving firearms with dire consequences.
