NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Speculation over the future leadership of the Free National Movement is growing as the party prepares for a post-election conclave.

However, FNM leader Michael Pintard says he has no concerns about his current deputy leader possibly seeking the top post, while questions also remain over when the party will hold its next national convention.

The question comes as the FNM continues to pick up the pieces following its defeat in the May general election, with growing discussion inside the party about its leadership, its direction, and when members should next head to convention.

FNM Chairman Dr. Duane Sands recently told Our TV’s “On the Record” host Jerome Sawyer that he believes waiting until October 2027 for the party’s next convention would be too long, and says he would like to see a convention held within months.

While he stopped short of saying whether Pintard should remain leader, Sands said the party must take an objective look at why it lost the election and what needs to change.

Despite this, Pintard says there is no disagreement between him and the party chairman over the work ahead.

“ Dr. Sands and I talk all the time, so we’re generally in agreement on the matters that he raised with the public, particularly around the work of the party. So no disagreement with him.”

The FNM is also expected to hold a conclave as the party looks at what went wrong in the May election and what needs to change going forward.

Pintard says the meeting will give party members a chance to have those internal discussions and map out their next steps.

The conclave was initially announced for July, but was later postponed; so far, the party has not announced a new date.

Meanwhile, when asked what members can expect when they finally meet, Pintard had this to say.

“ Good family discussion. We’ll keep you posted,” he said

Last month, former prime minister and former FNM Leader Hubert Ingraham told party supporters the FNM’s job is to find someone who can win, which added to the debate over who should lead the party into the next general election.
