GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – On November 1st, Grand Bahama Power Company customers began paying a little more for their energy consumption. Here’s what power company officials are saying prompted the price hike.

Between 2016 and 2022, Grand Bahama Power Company customers paid about 10 cents per kilowatt hour but that’s not the case today.

Director of Communications at The Grand Bahama Power Company, Cleopatra Russell, says following Hurricane Matthew, the company sought to create more stability for customers through their hedging program.

According to Russell, for the month of November, customers can expect a nominal increase from 10 cents per kilowatt hour to 11 and a half cents per kilowatt hour.

She adds that several programs are currently in place to educate customers on managing their energy usage.

And the power company isn’t only telling, they’re showing how it can be done.
