NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Christian Council President Bishop Delton Fernander calling it unfair that thousands of people born in The Bahamas are forced to wait sometimes decades before getting Bahamian citizenship.

His comments follow those of Chief Justice Sir Ian Winder who warned that requiring individuals born in The Bahamas to foreign parents to live on the outside of their own society, is a recipe for social discontent.

Fernander says for all intents and purposes these people are Bahamian.

The immigration minister has said the process cannot be rushed, noting there have been instances of fraud.

It’s a sentiment Fernander agrees with saying he has seen instances of fraud.

He added there should be no timeline on the process.
