NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Immigration Minister Keith Bell says government may have to weigh introducing DNA testing to confirm a child’s paternity to prevent fraud.

His comments followed the Privy Council ruling that children born out of wedlock to foreign women and a Bahamian man is a citizen at birth.

Bell says the major issue will be those individuals seeking citizenship with an affidavit, as was the case in the recent privy council case.

Following the ruling, many deemed it discriminatory as a women can still not pass on their citizenship.

But it seems National Security Minister Wayne Munroe is of a different view.
