COSTA RICA – Carlton Taylor will be the first Bahamian to graduate from Earth University with a degree in agricultural engineering but agriculture hasn’t always been his passion.

Hailing from Exuma, he was initially interested on marine sciences but says you’d be surprised how connected the two are.

First-year students, Aaron John and Ajani Rolle come from families with multiple generations of farmers.

Latrey Johnson is also a first-year student, but he’s also a first-generation farmer.

Johnson says his interest was piqued during the pandemic, when he decided to take a course from The Bahamas agriculture and Marine Science Institute.

They say their concern for food import spending and the heavy carbon footprint involved in shipping foods in has been a big motivator.

When asked about the difference they hope to make in The Bahamas post-graduation, Rolle shares.
