NASSAU, BAHAMAS – We’re less than a month away from the start of the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane season but is your family ready?

Experts are saying this season could be one of the most active on record. Outlooks range anywhere between 15 to up to 23 named storms. Last year we had 20. The average amount of named storms? 14.

Of those projected 23 storms, three to five of those storms could become major hurricanes – with winds of at least one hundred and 11 miles an hour.

General advice is that it’s best not to wait until a storm is upon us to prepare. So what are some things you can do to prepare this month?

Go over your family’s emergency plan or create one if you haven’t already.

Beat the food store rush and buy your non-perishables early.

Check that your shutters are in good condition and replace them if need be.

Get an insurance check up. Check in with your agent on the insurance policy details of your home and vehicles.

And remember, flood insurance is often a separate policy. Just because your property is insured, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s covered for flood damage.
