ELEUTHERA, BAHAMAS – There appears to be a glimmer of hope on the horizon for Eleutherans, as a top BPL executive says relief from the ongoing power woes is expected by the end of September.

New generation capacity is anticipated to handle the increased summer demand.

This follows complaints from businesses about losing customers while residents struggle with sweltering heat and frequent daily outages. Berthony McDermott has the latest.

Eleuthera residents can expect relief from the ongoing vexing power issues by September, according to Bahamas Power and Light Chief Operating Officer Toni Seymour.

This assurance follows complaints from residents who have endured what they describe as constant outages, which in some cases have cost them business.

Seymour says the plan is to have sufficient generation capacity in the short term.

Our news team visited the island and experienced firsthand the challenges residents face, including witnessing the power being cut at least three times in a single day.

The government has committed to doing whatever it takes to resolve the issues on the island. This, as BPL has sent additional resources to ease the burden on residents.

In the meantime, Seymour says BPL will continue to exhaust temporary solutions to get the most out of the existing fleet.

She admits outages may occur but assures the additional spares and replacement parts will be made available for swift repairs.
