Tuesday lead the Thanksgiving travel rush with over 50,000 flights expected, while Thanksgiving Day will be the quietest, with just 26,000 flights. Volume, which is said to be the main cause of delays, could worsen with understaffed air traffic control teams.
FAA administrator Michael Whitaker says measures like traffic flow management are in place to keep flights moving safely, despite challenges.
