NASSAU, BAHAMAS – From popular events like Jollification and Wine & Art, to educational field trips and weekend retreats, thousands have walked the grounds of the Bahamas National Trust’s Retreat on Village Road.

But even with 66 years of conservation work and more than 30 national parks under its care, the BNT is still a mystery to some Bahamians.

That includes teenagers Rovette Murphy and Joy Casildo who only found out about the trust this summer while volunteering for a mural painting project.

Now after just a few weeks of volunteering, the teens say the experience gave them a new sense of pride in the country’s parks and wildlife and a better understanding of why it all matters.
