NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A 47-year-old Haitian man is facing vehicular manslaughter after a traffic accident claimed the life of his passenger on Christmas Day.

Prosecutors say Dalande Austral, while operating a Nissan Bluebird Sylphy at Murphy Town, drove in a reckless manner, causing the car to go overboard.

His passegner, Alexandry Beauchard, who was trapped inside, died at the scene.

Austral was also charged with driving without third party risk insurance.

Austral didn’t have to enter a plea to the charge when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux.

Bail was denied and he’s next due in court on March 25 to receive voluntary bill of indictment papers.
