NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Nearly two months after the October deadline, State Minister Myles Laroda says a draft gender policy is a work in progress.
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Nearly two months after the October deadline, State Minister Myles Laroda says a draft gender policy is a work in progress.
Just before he died, former Social Services Minister Obie Wilchcombe said the government expected to have a draft gender policy in hand for review and further consultation by October but that didn’t happen.
Laroda was asked if progress was hindered by his sudden passing.
The issues of gender-based violence policies have been a point of contention not just for The Bahamas, but globally for quite a while.
A United Nations development programme report revealed a chronic bias against women globally over the last decade.
But when will consultation continue on the hot-button issues?
Laroda also renewed the government’s commitment to meeting international policies and treaties that call for equality among the sexes.
