CANADA – Air Canada canceled over 1,000 flights this past weekend after 10,000 flight attendants ignored federal return-to-work orders in a pay dispute.

The Canadian Industrial Relations Board ruled the strike unlawful, ordering the attendants, represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees, back on the job by Monday noon.

The union says wages lag behind inflation, market rates, and even the federal minimum wage, while also demanding pay for boarding and deplaning.

Air Canada offered a 17% raise over four years, but the union says it’s insufficient. The strike reportedly left about 130,000 passengers stranded each day.
