INDIA – Rescue teams search for survivors following the collapse of a 143-year-old suspension bridge in the western Indian State of Gujarat.

The death toll stands at 133 making it one of the worst accidents in India’s history.

Hundreds were sent plunging into the water as security camera footage shows the bridge shaking violently with people trying to hold onto its cables and metal fencing before the walkway gave way.

The bridge only opened on october 26th the first day of the Gujarat new year and the Hindu festival season which drew hundreds of sightseers.

A bridge maintenance contract to maintain and manage the bridge was awarded to a company known only for making clocks, mosquito racquets and electric bikes.
