NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Bahamas and the region at large looking to increase food sustainability and security. Here at home, the goal is to attract more young people to the farming industry.

The Minister of Agriculture, Clay Sweeting, noting that across the region, the majority of farmers are over the age of 55, while here The Bahamas, that average is over 60.

He says quite frankly, for a long time, it has not been an attractive industry for young people.

Another challenge, according to Sweeting, is showing young people how farming can be a lucrative career.

With the implementation of technology and innovative techniques, Sweeting says the interest is growing.

He adds that more schools are now offering more agriculture focused courses.
