NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Athletes throughout the region will head to Grand Bahama in droves next weekend, looking for a final opportunity to qualify for the upcoming World Athletics Championships.
The Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations has named a 37-member team for the 2025 NACAC Championships, set for August 16-17 at the Grand Bahama Sports Complex.
Six athletes have already qualified for the World Champs, but others are still looking to claim a roster spot for Tokyo in September.
The men’s team will be headlined by recent qualifier Kaiwan Culmer, 400m olympic champion Steven Gardiner, 100m champion Terrence Jones, and javelin record holder Keyshawn Strachan.
On the women’s side, the list features world champs qualifiers Anthanya Charlton, Camille Rutherford, Javonya Valcourt, and the road to return continues for Shaunae Miller-Uibo.
Named to the team are the following:
Men – Terrence Jones, Wanya McCoy, Adam Musgrove, Ian Kerr, Steven Gardiner, Wendel Miller, Alonzo Russell, Donald Thomas, Shaun Miller Jr., Keyshawn Strachan, Kaiwan Culmer, Laquan Nairn, Jonathan Rodgers, Samson Colebrooke, Lamar Williams, Gregory Seymour, Andrew Styles, Andrew Brown, Abner Johnson, Jalen Cadet, Kendrick Thompson, Kenny Moxey Jr., Jonathan Turner, Antoine Andrews, Oscar Smith, Rollie Hanna and Dennis Williamson.
Women – Katrina Stamps, Anthaya Charlton, Camille Rutherford, Printassia Johnson, Shaunae Miller-Uibo, Rhema Otabor, Dior-Rae Scott, Anthonique Strachan, Javonya Valcourt and Denisha Cartwright.
Andrew Tynes is the head coach, assisted by Rupert Gardiner, Patrick Adderley, Ronald Cartwright, James Rolle and Corrington Maycock.
The teams will also look to qualify in several relay events.
The world championships take place September 16-21 in Tokyo, Japan.
Basketball
A staple of the summer, the Jeff Rodgers Basketball Camp continues to expose camp participants to local and international icons of the sport.
In preparation of the annual family fun night, several basketball icons both local and International were on hand at the Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium.
Camp founder Jeff Rodgers said the mission remains bigger than basketball.
Another mainstay at the camp, the Thompson family continues their support
His eldest son Mychel is a former national team member and now serves on the coaching staff.
Soccer
The Bahamas closed out the 2025 concacaf under-15 championship with a strong finish.
Bouncing back from two earlier losses, the team scored a 2-0 win over St. Vincent and The Grenadines in their final match of the tournament, hosted in Curacao.
Tobias Saunders and Derron Ferguson were the goal scorers to lead the win.
In match one, The Bahamas opened the touRnament with a 5-0 loss to bonaire.
They followed with a 2-1 loss to Dominica, with Dirk Simmons as the lone goal scorer.
