Bahamas Guyana Association Celebrate With Food Competition

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Guyanese Bahamas Association came together recently to celebrate Guyana’s 53rd anniversary as a republic. President of the Association, Trevor Greeves, explains how the Guyanese diaspora celebrates the annual milestone.

Greeves added that association members split up into three teams, each team having a color representing a color of their flag. 

Each team hosts a friendly cooking competition while a variety of native dishes were made, the competition focused on a special national dish.

Coreen Douglas of the green team noting the Guyanese diaspora has been making significant strides in the Bahamian community. 

Members of the association invited local family and friends to the celebration;  following the competition, all of the food was shared. 

Yellow team leader, Kellon Lewis, says events such as these help to foster cultural exchange.
