BIMINI, BAHAMAS – With Silver Airways declaring bankruptcy this year, routes between the United States and our family islands have been left vacant, but Tourism, Investments, and Aviation Minister, Chester Cooper says other provisions are being made to ensure airlift is still maintained between the various destinations.

“Bahamasair is doing an amazing job…we have restarted Fort Lauderdale to Georgetown as well on Bahamasair, it is doing an amazing job. I applaud them for the work they do, they do a lot, but limited capacity.”

They also want to ensure smaller airlines are assisting with the load as well.

“We have Makers Air for example that do [an] exceptional job, especially in the Exuma Cays, and they’re going to Cat Island as well, and we are working with Aztec and Tropic Ocean Airways…to ensure that we get air service to all of the family islands,” Cooper said.

Dr. Kenneth Romer – Aviation Director, Ministry of Tourism

“It goes beyond just technical training who wish to be pilots. As I would’ve suggested that aviation is a vast ecosystem, it requires a lot of skill set, so you’re looking at persons to explore aviation beyond just flying aircraft. “

“You want them to be involved in management roles among the 14 airports we’re building and the 28 overseen by the airport authority NAD of course, [and] also the Grand Bahama International Airport. So we are encouraging persons not to wait until it is built.”
