NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Much of Dr. Jonathan Higgins’ two decades of surgical experience was spent as a vascular surgeon, but he says his efforts to get patients to utilize preventative, lifestyle medicine fell on deaf ears.

When he shared his struggles with some friends who were plastic surgeons, he realized he may have found the secret to helping patients become healthier before it becomes life-threatening.

Higgins sees the cosmetic field, which he has specialized in for the last three years, as an opportunity not only to improve lives through how people feel on the outside, but to instill habits that will carry on for years and keep them healthy inside.

Many of his patients are mothers and when asked about the broader impact their lifestyle changes could have on the country’s struggle with obesity, he shared this.
