Bahamian Team Competes at World Clubs Tournament Event

FRANCE – This week’s competition is being called a watershed moment for Bahamas Equestrian. 

For the first time, the Federation has fielded a team for  an international show jumping event. 

The team of Katerina Coello, Emma Johnston, Ella Saidi and sienna tinker are competing at the World Clubs Tournament event in Lamotte-Beuvron, France. 

They are coached by grand prix rider and trainer, Rai Burch of Bermuda.

The world clubs tournament is part of the Generali Open de France, an annual competition.

Participating teams also include Belgium, Chile, China, France, Italy, Malta, Czech Republic, and Turkey.

The draw took place on Monday and The Bahamas drew the sixth position. They completed the course walk and final practice session before the start of competition, which continues throughout the week.

As the sport continues to grow locally, there are nearly 100 riders participating in equestrian in The Bahamas. 

Basketball

An active summer continues for the Bahamas Basketball Federation.

The junior girls have arrived in David, Panama for the Centrobasket under 15 Championship for women.

The Bahamas was drawn into Group B along with Puerto Rico, El Salvador, and Costa Rica. Group A includes Panama, Mexico, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. 

The Bahamas opens competition against Costa Rica on Wednesday at 5 pm. On Thursday, The Bahamas takes on El Salvador at 3 pm and on Friday, The Bahamas faces Puerto Rico at 3pm.

The top two teams in each group will advance to the semi-finals and the rest will play for positions 5-8. 

Playoff rounds will be Saturday and Sunday.

The top three  teams in the competition will qualify for the 2025 FIBA ​​u16 Women’s Americup.

Baseball

Chicago Cubs prospect BJ Murray has been putting up some impressive numbers at the plate this month.

In his last appearance, Murray hit a 3-run homer in his Iowa Cubs’ 4-3 win over the Memphis Redbirds. His solo shot in the first inning was his 11th of the season.

Murray struggled through june but since the calendar flipped to July he’s hitting .351 and slugging .595 for Iowa, the Cubs’ Triple A affiliate. 

Over that 11-game span he also has 5 multi hit games with 2 home runs, 7 rbi, and scored 5 runs.
