U.S.A. – From individual program record holders to relay contributors at the NCAA regional preliminary rounds, several Bahamians have secured their spots among the nation’s elite collegiate competitors.
The next step for the group of qualified athletes – the 2025 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships, June 11–14 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Anthaya Charlton of the Florida Gators leads the contingent, having qualified in three events. She clocked a personal best of 11.01 seconds in the 100 meters at the east preliminaries, setting a new school record.
Charlton also secured her place in the long jump with a mark of 6.44 meters and contributed to Florida’s 4×100-meter relay team, which posted a season-best time of 43.17 seconds at the SEC Championships .
Her teammate, Quincy Penn, also advanced as part of the gators’ 4×100-meter relay squad.
Javonya Valcourt of the Tennessee Volunteers earned her spot in the 400 meters, recording a time of 51.16 seconds, second in her heat and fifth in the region.
She also contributed to Tennessee’s 4×400-meter relay team that qualified in 3:27.76 seconds.
Oscar Smith of Louisiana Tech advanced in the 110-meter hurdles.
Smith set personal bests on consecutive days, first clocking 13.52 seconds in the preliminaries and then improving to 13.42 seconds in the quarterfinals to secure his place in the national championships
In the field events, Keyshawn Strachan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers qualified in the javelin throw with a mark of 76.97 meters at the West Regional.
Zion campbell of the minnesota golden gophers advanced as part of the 4×100-meter relay team, which clocked a time of 39.07 seconds at the west preliminaries.
Baseball
For the second time this season, Texas Rangers prospect Sebastian Walcott and Arizona Diamondbacks prospect Kristian Robinson went head-to-head in the AA Texas League.
Walcott’s Frisco Roughriders dominated the series, winning five of the six games over Robinson’s Amarillo Sod Poodles.
Walcott had several standout performance during the series, highlighted on may 30 when he hit two home runs, including a leadoff solo shot.
It was his first multi-homer game at the double-a level.
For the series he hit .318, with two home-runs, two doubles, and three stolen bases.
Robinson had a two-rbi single in Amarillo’s sole win of the series on May 28.
WNBA
Jonquel Jones and the New York Liberty have been unbeaten so far in the WNBA season.
The Liberty not only moved to 7-0 Sunday night, but opened the Commissioner’s Cup with a 100-52 win over the Connecticut Sun Sunday night at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn.
The 48-point win was the largest margin of victory in franchise history and ties for the second largest in WNBA history.
Jones finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
She shot 3-4 from three, and the Liberty matched their own WNBA record by making 19 three-pointers.
Jones is averaging 15.7 points and 11.3 rebounds per game this season, with five double doubles.
The Liberty’s 7–0 record has also tied their best start in franchise history.
Basketball
Franco Miller Jr and FIBWI Palma have earned promotion to Spain’s second division of Pro Basketball, Primera Feb.
The club capped a dramatic playoff run with a comeback victory over Huesca.
Palma bounced back from a three-point loss in the first leg to win the second game 80–70 and secure their place in the Primera Feb for the upcoming season.
Miller had seven points in the finale and averaged 10.5 points, three rebounds, and three assists per game in his rookie season.
