UNITED STATES – NCAA Division I college basketball officially tips off next week, and several Bahamian players are heading into the season with high expectations and strong preseason performances.

At Syracuse University, forward Donnie Freeman is back from injury and already showing why he’s a key piece for the Orange. In their final exhibition game against Pace, Freeman poured in 22 points and grabbed 9 rebounds, shooting efficiently from the floor. Syracuse opens its regular season Monday night against Binghamton.

Over in New Mexico, Bahamas native Mike Albury made his second appearance for the Lobos, finishing with six points and four rebounds in their matchup against Northern Alabama, matching his stat line from his debut.
Albury was also named to the Preseason All–Mountain West Conference Team following his transfer from Utah State.

Fellow Bahamian Franco Miller Jr., now with the Santa Cruz Warriors in the NBA G League, says Albury’s potential is undeniable:

“It’s definitely impressive,” Miller said. “I see him as an MVP one season, for sure.”

From FIBA to the NBA: V.J. Edgecombe’s Meteoric Rise

Another Bahamian star making headlines is V.J. Edgecombe, whose breakout with the Philadelphia 76ers has captured the basketball world’s attention.

Edgecombe and Miller were teammates on The Bahamas Senior Men’s National Team last summer, competing at both the Acropolis Tournament in Greece and the FIBA Olympic Qualifiers in Valencia, Spain.

Edgecombe emerged as one of The Bahamas’ most dynamic scorers, averaging 16 points, 5 rebounds, and nearly 4 assists per game during Olympic qualifiers, while Miller led the team with 20 points in a standout performance against Montenegro.

Now, with Edgecombe dominating in the NBA and Miller preparing for his G League debut, the pair continue to represent Bahamian basketball’s global rise.

BBA Opens National Team Tryouts Ahead of Caribbean Cup

The Bahamas Baseball Association (BBA) is gearing up for the Caribbean Baseball Cup, set for December 1–8 at the Andre Rodgers National Stadium in Nassau.

To build a competitive roster, the BBA will host open national team tryouts for the Senior Men’s Team on Saturday, November 1, from 2–5 p.m. at the stadium.

The Bahamas will look to improve on its sixth-place finish at the 2024 Caribbean Cup, with several returning players expected to compete for roster spots.

Top Plays of the Week

It’s that rare Halloween-on-a-Friday, and while most people are in costume mode, we’re celebrating with some spooky-good highlights.

At #5:
Buddy Hield proves he’s still got it, draining tough shots and reminding fans why Bahamian basketball runs deep.

At #4:
Phillip Pilgrim starts his season with a hat trick for the University of The Bahamas Mingoes, and it’s not even Thanksgiving yet.

At #3:
Paul Greene looks right at home at UMBC, and if his play continues, another 16-vs-1 upset could be in the making.

At #2:
V.J. Edgecombe had as many blocks in one night as the NBA’s top draft pick had points.

At #1:
A Bahamian double feature: Edgecombe to Hield for three. The rookie finds the vet,  and that chemistry still haunts Argentina to this day.
