U.S.A. – Bahamian baseball prospects continue to search for opportunities to explore the international market, one means of exposure is for local academies to partner with Dominican Prospect League (DPL) events.

The DPL recently hosted a showcase and tournament at Georgia State in Atlanta, and several Bahamian players took part in the event.

Scouts from all 30 major league clubs were in attendance.

Former major league scout Brian Mejia, co-founder of the Dominican Prospect League said the relationship with Bahamian players has been an impactful once since the league was created.

Soccer

The Bahamas senior men’s national team has returned to international play in the CONCACAF nations league.

In match day one of Group G, The Bahamas played the host country U.S. Virgin Islands to a 3-3 tie at the Bethlehem Complex in St. Croix.

Lesley st. Fleur scored the side’s first goal on a penalty to take an early lead at the 2 minute mark.

Naqwan Henry got St. Thomas on the board at the 27 minute mark but The Bahamas took 2-1 lead into the break on a header from Wood Julmis.

In the second half they went ahead 3-1 on a goal from Brandon Adderley but was unable to hold on to the lead in the final 15 minutes of the match.

Rakeem Joseph scored at minute 75 and Gabriel Catone-Highfield scored the equalizer for the home team at the 86th minute.

Next up for The Bahamas is their match against Barbados on September 7.

The fourth edition of the CONCAF nations league featuring nine teams in League C chasing promotion to League B.

During the FIFA match windows of September and October, each team will play every team in its group twice, for four matches per team.

The Bahamas is in Group A alongside Barbados and the USVI.

Group winners will be promoted to League B. Additionally, the tournament will help to decide berths for the 2025 CONCAF Gold Cup.

Same sport, different playing surface – The Bahamas women’s beach soccer team also takes the pitch.

Beach Soccer

Team Bahamas is currently 0-2 at the 2024 FISU World University Beach Sports Championship in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

They opened with a 15-7 loss to el Salvador, followed by a 9-0 loss to Brazil.

Match three in pool play will be against Argentina.

The Bahamas women’s beach soccer team is currently ranked 12th globally. 

The event features the top university teams from around the world presenting a significant opportunity for the The Bahamas to enhance its standing on the international stage.

NCAA Football

College football has started and it’s never too early to get you engaged with who might be headed here on January 4 for the 2025 Bahamas Bowl. To do that – each week we’ll spotlight teams from Conference USA and the Mid-American Conference. 

In C-USA Liberty, was named the Bahamas Bowl team of the week and with a 41-24 win over Campbell. 

Sam Houston state quarterback Hunter Watson threw for 229 yards and two touchdowns. SHSU is in just its second season in Conference USA and has never appeared in the Bahamas Bowl.

Over in the MAC, Central Michigan  – your inaugural Bahamas Bowl winners – was named the Bahamas Bowl team of the week after their 66-10 win over Central Connecticut. 

Bowling green running back Terion Stewart gained 161 yards with three touchdowns on just 14 carries.
