NASSAU, BAHAMAS – In the aftermath of the devastating Hurricane Beryl, which ripped through Jamaica yesterday, relief efforts have kicked into high gear. Hours after the deadly storm, a Bahamian official in Jamaica confirmed Bahamians there are safe.

Hurricane Beryl left widespread damage in Jamaica, with two reported deaths and loss of essential infrastructure. Residents on the island say they’ve already resumed some operations.

Here in The Bahamas, the United Nations’ resident coordinator, responsible for Jamaica, Turks and Caicos, and The Bahamas, says the process has begun to jump-start recovery efforts. The UN has since launched a project to help with restoration.
