MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA – On this Election Day, Commissioner Dr. Katrina Touchstone proudly embraces her Bahamian roots sharing her heritage as an Exuma and San Salvador descendant. 

She tirelessly encouraged voters, especially within the historic bahamian community, to make their voices heard. 

We caught up with her in the historic and mostly Bahamian community of carver ranches.

Generations of Bahamians laid the groundwork here for leaders like touchstone. Today, she and others honor their legacy by voting

West Park is a vibrant Caribbean melting pot with large populations of Bahamians, Jamaicans, Haitians, and others. All uniting in shared aspirations.

Commissioner Joy Smith, a part of the Jamaican Diaspora emphasizes interconnected community issues.

Early voter Cynthia Strachan Saunders, an American of Bahamian descent has deep roots in carver ranches -tracking back to her grandmother, Ethelyn Bowles of cat island.

Saunders says she cast her vote to honor the sacrifices of bahamians like her grandmother made for a brighter future here.
