NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Bahamas Air Sea Rescue Association (BASRA) North is a non-profit, voluntary organization committed to saving lives at sea. Treasurer Shameika Hanna emphasizes that the organization should be contacted immediately in the event of any incidents at sea. However, as the Grand Bahama community continues to mourn the death of 25-year-old Dishon Russell, Hanna notes that BASRA was not alerted to his disappearance until hours later.

Vice President Captain D’Von Archer notes that while they cannot prevent accidents or loss of life, the difference in seconds or hours could greatly improve rescue efforts. As Bahamians prepare to partake in more water activities this summer, Captain Archer has these water safety reminders: always wear a life vest, inform family members about your plans, and utilize the buddy system.
