NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Executives from The Bahamas Hotel and Tourism Association set to meet with BPL officials in hopes of getting relief for hotel properties after the recent hike in fuel charges.

When it was announced, the association described the increase as alarming.

BHTA President Robert Sands says the possibility of a tax relief for hotel properties is on the table.

Prime Minister Philip Davis made the announcement earlier this month while listing a number of incentives to cushion the blow for Bahamians.

Sands says the hotel sector represents some of BPL’s top customers and estimates 30% of the power company’s revenue comes from hotels.

He also gave the assurance that hotels are up to date with paying their power bills.
