NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A suite of finance bills that focuses on the public sector will provide more transparency and accountability for public funds.

That’s according to Economic Affairs Minister Michael Halkitis who led off debate on the Public Procurement and Public Finance Management Bills in the senate on Friday morning.

Halkits says once passed they would make way for a Public Sector Audit Committee.
Parliamentarians Thursday night passed the Public Procurement Bill, 2022 and the Public Finance Management bBll, 2023.

The opposition voted against the bills.

In the senate, opposition senators voiced concerns of their own.

Senator Michela Barnett-Ellis says it allows for more secret deals.
