NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Several boats went up in flames on Potter’s Cay dock Monday morning filling the sky with thick black smoke that could be seen from miles away.

While the fire was quickly contained, vendors are still concerned about congestion at the docks.

Firefighters acted quickly, but still, ACP Damien Robinson says up to five vessels were destroyed.

President of the Potter’s Cay Dock Fish, Fruit, and Vegetable Vendors Association Ormanique Bowe says the timing of the fire played a role in the limited damage.

In the meantime, Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture & Marine Resources Neil Campbell says they’re working on making things better.
